Director Cao Hung Son – The Quiet Storyteller Behind the Curtain
With over a decade of dedication to the arts, Cao Hung Son is one of the prominent young directors making steady and passionate strides in both stage and television. He is not just a storyteller through images but an artist who lives fully for his craft, from his early acting days on stage to working behind the scenes as a director, editor, designer, and makeup artist.
Graduating from the Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts with a degree in Stage Design and Acting, Cao Hung Son found his path in the arts while still in school. His passion continued to grow. Most recently, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Television Directing at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema. His thesis short film Do (2023) received strong critical acclaim and was featured in the first Ho Chi Minh City Short Film Festival in 2023. This marked an important milestone in his artistic journey.
Earlier in 2015, Cao Hung Son made his mark with the public as a Top 8 semi finalist on the reality show Toi la dien vien, I’m a Diva, a fresh and challenging television competition. Refusing to limit himself to any single role, he has quietly contributed to many platforms—game shows, TVCs, viral clips, and children’s theater—leaving his mark through precision and a serious, professional approach to his work.
Currently, in addition to his creative work, he is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Theatre, Ho Chi Minh City College of Culture and Arts, where he continues to deepen his knowledge, practice his art, and inspire young generations of students.
In April 2025, Director Cao Hung Son returned to Vuon Am Nhac, a program he has been involved with since his student years. Speaking about Nong Trai Vui Ve, the play he directed for this edition, Son shared that it was an opportunity to both practice his craft and spread positive messages to young audiences. The familiar stories about family, affection, and unity — core themes in this production — are what he values most in working on the show.
Of course, the creative process is never smooth. “Directing always requires adjustments, changes, and rehearsals. It takes a lot of time and effort. But above all, for a complete team production, all challenges can be overcome,” he reflected. A heartwarming moment he recalled was when an audience member messaged him after a performance, saying their children immediately connected with the characters Alex and Grandma, who reminded them of their own family. It was a beautiful example of how art can naturally touch people’s hearts.
Closing the conversation, Director Cao Hung Son extended his appreciation to the team:
“Vuon Am Nhac is a show full of humanity and color for children, offering education, entertainment, and aesthetics. I wish the program and all its members continued creativity and dedication. The ones who benefit the most from all this will always be the children. Thank you.”
